OG Tips and Tricks for Teachers:
This workshop has been designed for teachers who want the information about the phonetic structure of the language so that they can implement MSL in their classrooms or learning support environments.
This training will include:
- Understanding the LD Learner
- Understanding the 3-tier intervention model and how to identify struggling students early
- Building a systematic, sequential spelling program for your classroom
- Multisensory strategies for teaching:
- Phonemic segmentation
- Basic graphemes (spellings of sounds)
- Spelling generalizations for common spelling confusions
- Spelling rules
- Syllabication (6 kinds of syllables and how they affect spelling and reading)
- Teaching Penmanship strategies
- Non-phonetic words (sight words vs. high frequency words)

Manuals for the course are $70. and can be ordered with registration.

Foundations of Multisensory Structured Language Education (MSL) is an introductory course to Orton-Gillingham education and training. This 30 hour training course has been designed to prepare educators for either clinical training in the Orton-Gillingham approach or Orton-Gillingham training for classroom teachers. Approved by the Canadian Academy of Therapeutic Tutors, Orton-Gillingham as approved foundational training, the course also serves as an important link to current research for Orton-Gillingham practitioners currently in practice.
Course content:
- The Dyslexic Learner
- Introduction to of the Orton-Gillingham approach
- Phonological Awareness
- Phonology (sounds and sound-symbol relationships)
- Decoding (from sound-symbol to blending sounds to text reading)
- Monitoring reading fluency quickly and easily
- Orthography -lower level spelling rules and upper level spelling rules
- Response to Intervention (RTI) in the classroom
This is an accredited course that includes assignments and exam work for course completion.

Our “Lunch and Learn” workshops are an opportunity to have our Orton-Gillingham Trainers come to your school and offer a workshop during the school’s lunch hour. These brief, targeted workshops offer hands-on strategies to educators in a school without having to schedule time outside of the regular school day.
